We all have fear in us whether or not anyone wants to admit it. It’s a very natural response to us being threatened. By giving into this normal response it can cause us to freeze while in a bad situation. This is something we just can’t afford to let happen while being attacked.
It doesn’t matter if you are the best fit person or the least fit person; we all have it and need to put this emotion in perspective in order for us to overcome it. Is this something that we can be trained in? Absolutely, we can focus our minds on other important factors. In order to react sufficiently we only have a matter of seconds. What are some of the things we can do to help us get through the fear factor?
You need to look at this as survival. Focusing on whatever it takes to survive can put your mind in the right state. Thinking about what you can do to get through a horrible situation is what matters in self defense. Don’t let your mind wonder, concentrate on the survival factor. You need to keep yourself right where you are during an attack. Letting your assailant move you to another location allow them a serious advantage on you.
Instead of letting your fear get in the way, let it become rage, how dear you try to take me, you aren’t taking me I won’t let you. You have the strength and courage to do this. Let it happen.
Don’t worry about you being hurt; chances are you will come out of this with some bruised or broken bones, cuts or even a gunshot wound. By allowing yourself to worry about this prior to the attack you will take time away from your response. There’s a good chance you will be hurt in some way, however it’s better to be hurt and alive than dead.
By using mental training on your mind you can eliminate apprehension and doubt. Prepare by doing practices on how you will react to an oncoming attacker. Knowing how and what to do can only help you. Discuss methods with family and friends, maybe they will think about other resources that you may not. The next step in self defense is to see you in a similar situation you have talked about and respond to it. Do this many times until you feel confident that you can overcome the fear.
Carrying self defense products is also something to consider. Again, you will need to be comfortable knowing that if you use this weapon on someone you will hurt them. Can you effectively do this? You have to allow you to defend you or you may never make it through.
Hesitation is not an option when it comes to self defense.
