Your Personal Safety is Important

Many of us at one time or another are very concerned about the safety of a loved one?  We live in an ever changing world and although most people are good citizens there are those out there that wish us harm.  These are the people who would rob us for our money, our valuables or would go over the top to commit physical harm to us.  Taking the initial steps in preparation for you and your loved ones safety is not being paranoid, it’s simply being smart.  You want to be prepared in the event something should happen.  This will give you an upper edge on your attacker. 

  

Preparation is the key component in personal defense, whether or not you believe you need it at the moment is irrelevant.  You prepare now before something happens.  If you never use your self defense weapons and I hope you never do, it will still be the smartest possible purchase choice you could have made.

By preparing you and your loved ones in self defense doesn’t mean you need to go out and buy a pistol.  Carrying firearms is illegal in many states so if this is the methods you choose make sure it’s legal in your state.  Many individuals do not want to carry a firearm, which is a matter of choice.  Guns are great protection however they can be lethal and you may have to suffer the consequences of that person’s death.  What if you had a gun and it’s confiscated from you by the attacker you might as well consider yourself dead.  For these reasons alone I don’t suggest purchasing a firearm.

What I do suggest is you purchase self defense weapons such as a TASER®, Stun Gun or Pepper Spray.   If these selfdefense devices are used properly they can discourage an attacker from harming you.  If one should take it from you it won't kill you as a firearm probably would.

The sound a Stun Gun makes is a great example, when this is heard and the sparks are seen there’s a great chance the criminal will move on to someone else.  He or she isn’t going to want to take the chance of getting zapped!   Close contact with your assailant will warrant a Stun Gun more so than a TASER Gun or pepper spray, however all these methods are great and if used correctly will perform as they are meant to. 

 

A TASER Gun is designed to perform within and up to 15 feet from you.  This allows you plenty of space, once you shoot the assailant with the gun, put it down and run to safety preferably to the police department to report the incident.  By doing this you will also be able to replace the TASER gun with Taser International under its warranty.

Pepper spray is another great defense device.  Many under estimate its abilities.  Don’t it works.  Again if used correctly.  It will sting an attacker’s eyes and cause coughing, gagging, and just make breathing downright difficult.   It won’t kill him but it will disable him and give you time to get to safety.  Pepper spray comes in many different styles, sizes, colors and strengths.  They all will perform well however depending on what you choose will depend on its ability. 

Personal safety should not be taken lightly.  It’s a serious matter and should be thought about often.  The best thing you can do for you and your loved ones is prepare, learn about the products you choose, learn how to effectively use them and then most importantly CARRY THEM ON YOU AT ALL TIMES.  I can’t stress this enough to people. 

If you don’t carry your weapons they can't help you.

Trust your Instincts

Pepper spray should be carried by women for many reasons.  The most important aspect of you is your personal safety.  In today’s environment you should be educating yourself with escaping an attacker, self defense moves, even the basics will help you, self confidence, fighting back and mostly carrying a self defense device.  All that is mentioned above can help in saving your life.

Many women may experience a bad thought or feeling about someone or something and shrug it off paying no attention to it.  If you ever have an uneasy feeling about anyone or anything always trust and use your instincts.  You will most likely be right and be happy you did.  

Awareness and alertness of your surroundings is a key component in staying safe.

Attacks happen very quickly and it’s crucial that you be able to think and react instantly when approached.  You don’t want to be taken by a stranger into a dark alley or shove you into their vehicle.  If you allow this you may never make it out of the situation.  If you are approached in public by a stranger and he or she tells you to come with them or get into the car or they will kill you, you need to react quickly, yell, screaming and fighting back.  This will be your one chance to take control, draw attention and escape.  You may not be harmed while in the public eye but you can surely believe that once taken to a remote area you very may well be.  

Carrying Pepper Spray and using it is the best way to distract an attacker from hurting you in public. By spraying them directly in the face you will cause distress to the attacker along with coughing, choking and nausea and possibly temporary blindness.  The mucous membranes will swell causing the assailant to be temporarily incapacitated.  This will gain you precious time to get to safety. 

By having Pepper Spray on your person and easily accessible at all times can be the difference between life and death.  Sadly we cannot trust our surroundings any longer, those days are long gone and never coming back.  Keeping on top of your surroundings at all times is a crucial step in your personal safety.

For the avid women whose career requires traveling frequently and staying away from home you need beware.  There are many criminals who seek out women just like you.  Staying at hotels, motels alone can be dangerous for women traveling alone or business women who frequent different hotels.  

Never open your hotel room door when someone knocks on it.  Just because you hear a knock doesn’t mean you need to open the door.   You can always ask what they want.  If you are staying at a facility that affords leaving instructions at the front desk that all deliveries you may receive be left with them is your smartest choice. 

Keep your conversation short and sweet with strangers you may meet in the lobby. This can be a potential predator hang out, seeking his next victim. 

If your attendance is required at a convention and you need to wear a name badge, keep it within the confines of the convention area, there’s no reason for you to be wearing your name throughout the hotel advertising who you are and where you are staying. 

Need to get out of the room for an alcoholic drink to end a stressful day?  If you venture down to the hotel lounge, make sure you watch the bartender mixing your drink.  Don’t leave your drink unattended at anytime. 

While your job may require you to travel and stay at hotels, you should consider carrying self defense products as a personal alarm.  Always pay attention to your surroundings, make yourself appear as confident as you can and stay alert.   If traveling by air personal alarms can be carried on the plane (airports won't confiscate them).   

These defense devices are meant to be heard and should be carried on you at all times.  However, don’t be mistaken these devices will not protect you, only draw attention to the situation at hand and hopefully deter an attacker.

College Students and Self Defense
