When fired two electrified probes will travel up to 15 feet and can penetrate through up to two inches of clothing.  This self defense device is nearly 100 percent effective.

Stun guns use high-voltage and low amperage which will disable an attacker for up to 5 to 10 minutes. The electrical charge causes the muscles to work very rapidly depleting all the blood sugars in the assailant's body so the person’s body hasn’t any energy left to move. 

Stun guns, Taser guns and Peppersprays are very affordable, compact and easily concealable.  There costs usually range from $8.50 to $90.  Taser guns are more expensive, with prices starting at about $370 and up.

Stun Guns - High Voltage or Not?

When it comes to stun guns many people are skeptic due to misunderstanding of how they work.  It’s understandable why one would be confused when it comes to their effectiveness, because there is such a wide range of output voltage.  The size and model of stun guns ranges from 100,000 voltages in excess of more than a million volts.  There are more powerful stun guns that exceed 5 million volts.    

Do you need the most powerful voltage level stun gun to sufficiently defend yourself?  

There really isn’t a yes or a no answer, however by having a higher-voltage capacity the stun gun will take down the attacker much quicker.  The disadvantage of the 5 million voltage level stun guns is they require a bigger casing.  They can still be easily gripped but they are more conspicuous when carried.  These stun guns are also more expensive.

All stun guns work in the same manner.  At the tip of the stun gun are the probes, when in contact with the attacker’s body it sends high voltages down to the muscles. This causes rapid conversion of muscle sugars into lactic acid, renders the person immobile and in severe pain. The contact of the gun's tips must be held on the individual for a good 3 to 5 seconds to thoroughly stun the attacker.

It is said that the higher level stun guns do not require as much time of stunning to be effective, this difference is very minimum.  It is highly suggested to get the most performance out of the stun gun you will need to hold it on the person for 3 to 5 seconds to completely immobilize the attacker.  This will completely disable him or her for at least five minutes.  By doing so, you will have enough time to get to safety.  

Stun guns, regardless of voltage levels are less-lethal weapons.  There function is to immobilize and cause pain but will not harm anyone permanently.   An individual who is stunned will feel as if they were in contact with a live wire.   Stun guns do not have enough amperage to kill someone. 

When it’s all said and done, is it really necessary to purchase the most powerful stun gun to sufficiently defend yourself?  Purchase one that your budget affords.  There are many styles and voltage levels to choose from.  These items start at around $20 and run as high as $80.

Always remember, if you don’t carry it, the stun device will not help you.
